OneTrust DataGuidance was joined by expert speakers from Lee & Ko for a webinar comparing the GDPR and South Korea's PIPA. This webinar wass released in conjunction with the GDPR v. PIPA report which provides a comparison of data protection requirements and recommendations under the GDPR and the Personal Information Protection Act, 2011 as amended in 2020 and its supplementary Enforcement Decree of the Personal Information Protection Act 2011, in light of South Korea's strategy to receive EU Adequacy.
This webinar focused on the similarities and differences found in relation to data subject rights, primary definitions, and material scopes, as well as highlighting key amendments, such as the introduction and regulation of pseudonymized personal data, and the strengthening of the sanctioning powers of the data protection authorities. Our speakers will also take a look at the second set of changes that have been proposed to the Personal Information Protection Act in an effort to minimize any remaining operational gaps that are still present after last year’s amendment.
