Yukon: Commissioner releases updated guidance on preventing ransomware attacks

The Yukon Information and Privacy Commissioner ('the Commissioner'), Diane McLeod-McKay, announced, on 28 January 2020, that she had released an updated ransomware guidance document ('the Guidance') on how to prevent ransomware attacks, what do if one occurs, and how to minimise any resulting damage. In particular, the Guidance notes that to prevent a ransomware attack from occurring organisations should, among other things, avoid opening links to log-in portals or software via advertisements on social media and websites, refrain from installing software on corporate devices and adding plug-ins to browsers on such devices, and never insert media, such as USB drives, from unverified sources into devices.
