Virginia: AG files lawsuit against Skyline Metrics for robocalls
The Virginia Attorney General ('AG'), Mark R. Herring, announced, on 25 June 2019, that he had filed a lawsuit against two telemarketing companies, Adventis, Inc. and Skyline Metrics, LLC, for illegal robocalls and deceptive sales practices. In particular, the AG alleged that Adventis and Skyline Metrics had used automated equipment to extract telephone numbers from websites and make unsolicited robocalls to pitch car selling services to individuals who listed cars for sale on the internet, and that between 2014 and 2017, 586,870 unsolicited telemarketing calls had been made to numbers with Virginia area codes. In addition, the AG highlighted that under Virginia and federal telemarketing laws, those making illegal calls are subject to damages or civil penalties of $500 or more per call.
