Vietnam: MIC announces plans to issue code of conduct to protect children in cyberspace

The Ministry of Information and Communications ('MIC') announced, on 3 December 2021, plans for the issuance of a Code of Conduct on Protection of Children in Cyberspace before the end of 2021 ('the Code of Conduct'). In particular, the announcement highlighted the increase in use of social networks by children and the adoption in June 2021 of Decision No. 830/QD-TTg dated June 01, 2021 of the Prime Minister on approving the Program on protection of and support for children to interact in a healthy and creative manner in the cyber environment in the 2021-2025 period. More specifically, the announcement details that the Program will have dual goals, firstly to protect children's privacy and prevent acts taking advantage of children in cyberspace, and secondly to maintain this environment to ensure the safe use of online environments by children.

Furthermore, the announcement notes that the Ministry of Public Security ('MPS') will be tasked with monitoring the enforcement of the Code of Conduct, and that the MPS will issue the Code of Conduct in the fourth quarter of 2021.
