USA: White House releases factsheet on protection of federal supply chain from climate-related risks
The White House released, on 10 November 2022, a factsheet on addressing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting the Federal Government's supply chains from climate-related financial risks. In particular, the White House announced that the Biden Administration proposed the Federal Supplier Climate Risks and Resilience Rule, which would require federal contractors receiving more than $50 million in annual contracts to:
- disclose their greenhouse gas emissions;
- disclose their climate-related financial risks; and
- set science-based emissions reduction targets.
Furthermore, the White House explained that the Federal Supplier Climate Risks and Resilience Rule aims to strengthen the resilience of federal supply chains, to the end of achieving in greater efficiencies and reduceding climate risks, and that it provides a targeted, risk-based approach by focusing primarily on major federal suppliers.
