USA: VVRMC notifies OCR of data security incident
Val Verde Regional Medical Center ('VVRMC') notified, on 25 May 2022, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services ('HHS') Office for Civil Rights ('OCR') of a data security incident affecting 86,562 individuals. In particular, VVRMC stated that, on 10 March 2022, it experienced a data security incident that disrupted its systems. In addition, VVRMC stated that, upon discovering the incident, it launched an investigation and engaged a digital forensics firm to help determine the type of information that may have been accessed. More specifically, VVRMC found that the types of information potentially accessed varied by individual, but may have included names, addresses, social security numbers, patient account numbers, and medical record numbers.
