USA: Senators introduce bill for the Exposure Notification Privacy Act
U.S. Senator, Maria Cantwell, announced, on 1 June 2020, that she, along with U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy and Amy Klobuchar, have introduced the bill for the Exposure Notification Privacy Act ('the Bill') to the U.S. Senate. In particular, Senator Cassidy highlights that the Bill aims to protect privacy during the COVID-19 ('Coronavirus') pandemic. In addition, the Bill requires among other things, for public health officials to be involved with the deployment of any exposure notification systems, for participation in such apps to be voluntary and based on consumer consent, and creates strict enforcement measures to be used by federal and state authorities.
