USA: New London Hospital notifies OCR of data breach

New London Hospital Association, Inc. ('NLH'), notifed, on 9 March 2021, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services' Office for Civil Rights ('OCR') of a data breach affecting 34,878 invididuals. In particular, NLH stated an external investation determined that an unauthorised third party gained access to a file on its network for a short period of time on 30 July 2020. Furthermore, NLH confirmed that the file contained patient names, limited demographic information, and Social Security numbers, and highlighed that the network system is no longer compromised and there is no evidence currently suggesting that any personal information was misused at this time. In addition, NLH outlined that they are currently in the process of notifying potientally impacted patients.
