USA: American Medical Technologies notifies OCR of health data breach

American Medical Technologies notified, on 18 June 2020, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services' Office for Civil Rights ('OCR'), of a data breach affecting 47,767 of its patients, which the OCR is now investigating. In particular, Beaumont’s investigation concluded that the potentially breached data included, among other things, social security numbers, medical record numbers, medical history information, driver's licences/state identification numbers, or taxpayer ID number. In addition, the investigation found that the cyberattack resulted from an email phishing incident involving an employee's email account.
