UK: NCSC publishes guidance to help SMEs move their business online

The National Cyber Security Centre ('NCSC') published, on 20 May 2020, guidance ('the Guidance') to help small and medium enterprises ('SMEs') move their business online, as a result of adjusting their ways of working during the COVID-19 ('Coronavirus') pandemic. In particular, the Guidance advices SMEs, ensuring that their existing arrangements are able to accommodate increases in use and reliance on digital technology, including online services such as web hosting and credit card processing, securing devices and services, and checking their service agreements. In addition, the Guidance provides a list of questions to assist in the assessment of SMEs' cybersecurity, and advises communicating directly with their IT service provider about security issues, including access and encryption solutions to safeguard data across the internet, monitoring and incident response, and backup arrangements.
