UK: ICO warns organizations to proactively make advertising cookies compliant

On, January 31, 2024, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) warned organizations to proactively make advertising cookies compliant after they received a positive response to their November 2023 call to action. In particular, the ICO noted that of the 53 organizations the ICO contacted, 38 organizations have changed their cookie banners to be compliant and four have committed to reach compliance within the next month.

Moreover, the ICO highlights that several other organizations are working to develop alternative solutions, including contextual advertising and subscription models.

In addition, the ICO clarified that they are preparing to write to another 100 websites to make changes for compliance.
