UK: CIPL responds to Government Policy Paper on AI

The Centre for Information Policy Leadership ('CIPL') issued, on 23 September 2022, its response to the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport's ('DCMS') policy paper entitled 'Establishing a pro-innovation approach to regulating AI: Policy Statement', outlining the UK Government's approach to regulating AI in the UK, following the launch of a public consultation on the same. In particular, the CIPL stated that, in responding to the specific consultation questions put forward by the DCMS, it seeks to highlight several issues for the DCMS' consideration to enhance its proposed approach, and thereby ensure a future-proof, robust, and realistic approach to regulating AI.

Furthermore, the CIPL noted that it supports the overall approach of the DCMS and believes that, by incorporating the recommendations outlined in its response, the DCMS will be able to provide appropriate protection for individuals and society without hampering the ability of organisations to engage in AI innovation.
