Turkey: KVKK announces Yıldız Teknopark data breach

The Personal Data Protection Authority ('KVKK') announced, on 12 May 2022, a data breach affecting Yıldız Teknoloji Geliştirme Bölgesi Teknopark AŞ. In particular, the KVKK highlighted that, in accordance with Article 12(5) of the Law on Protection of Personal Data No. 6698, the data controller notified the KVKK that a cyber attack occurred on the systems belonging to Yıldız Tehnopark on 3 May 2022, which was detected as a result of finding a ransom note on 5 May 2022.

Moreover, the KVKK highlighted that the classes of individuals affected by the violation include employees, users, and customers. However, the KVKK emphasised that the number of people affected by the violation has not been determined yet. Furthermore, the KVKK added that hte personal data categories affected by the breach included identity details, contact details, location data, personnel information, customer transactions, and finance and professional experience information.
