Turkey: KVKK announces Kent Konut data breach

The Turkish data protection authority ('KVKK') announced, on 10 February 2022, a data breach that occurred within Kent Konut İnşaat Sananyi ve Ticaret A.Ş., affecting 1,000 individuals. In particular, the KVKK highlighted that, in accordance with Article 12(5) of Law on Protection of Personal Data No. 6698, Kent Konut, as a data controller, notified the KVKK that ransomware attacks and denial of service ('DoS') attacks were detected on 31 January 2022, whilst carrying out a prosecution investigation.

Moreover, the KVKK provided that the breach affected 1,000 individuals, including customers and employees of Kent Konut. Furthermore, the KVKK highlighted that the personal data affected by the breach includes IDs, biometric data, financial data, customer numbers, communication details, as well as visual and audio records.
