Tennessee: Bill requiring disclosure on AI-generated content assigned to Banking and Consumer Affairs Subcommittee
On February 7, 2024, House Bill 2707, a companion bill of Senate Bill 2431, was assigned to the Banking and Consumer Affairs Subcommittee, following its introduction on February 1, 2024.
In particular, the bill would require individuals or entities to include a disclosure on the following types of content when it is generated using artificial intelligence (AI):
- images, videos, or audio recordings, including songs, using the likeness of another individual; or
- literature or other written work, including news stories, when the literature or other written work is written by an individual other than the individual listed as the author.
Furthermore, the bill provides that violations could result in the court issuing an injunction and award actual damages, punitive damages, and reasonable attorneys' fees and court costs.
The bill, if enacted, would apply from July 1, 2024.
