Switzerland: FDPIC releases 2023-2024 annual report
On June 25, 2024, the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) announced the release of its 2023-2024 annual report, covering the FDPIC's supervisory activities from April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024.
What were the FDPIC's main activities in the reporting period?
The FDPIC highlighted the current challenges in digitization projects, regarding privacy protection, the transparency principle, and the rule of law. In that regard, the report contained summaries of projects within the Federal Administration which the FDPIC monitored closely, in particular projects relating to cloud services.
The report also included:
- a section on the resources available on the FDPIC's website regarding the Federal Act on Data Protection 2020 (FADP), including the new data processing policy templates;
- summaries of notable investigations and enforcement actions taken by the FDPIC;
- relevant international agreements, including the ratification of Convention 108+; and
- statistics of the FDPIC's activities and comparison charts.
The FDPIC also noted an increase in consultation requests regarding digital data processing and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) from businesses and federal authorities.
Finally, the report also touched on activities performed by the FDPIC under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
