Switzerland: FDPIC publishes statement on Clearview AI facial recognition app

The Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner ('FDPIC') published, on 21 January 2020, a statement in relation to Clearview AI, Inc.'s activities of collecting and processing facial data. In particular, the FDPIC recommends that all users of social networks set up their accounts to prevent access to their photos by search engine providers and stated that Clearview AI, by collecting facial data, had violated the privacy of individuals based in Switzerland, and had failed to respect the terms of use of social networks. In addition, the FDPIC requested that Clearview destroy data related to people based in Switzerland.
