Sweden: IMY implements whistleblowing channels
The Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection ('IMY') announced, on 18 July 2022, that it is possible for individuals to whistleblow to the IMY if they have information that their employer, previous employer, or prospective employer does not follow the data protection rules. In particular, the IMY noted that the Government considered the IMY to be a supervisory authority that is required to implement external whistleblowing channels under the Protection of Persons Reporting Irregularities (2021:890) ('the Whistleblowing Act'). In addition, the IMY outlined three different ways to whistleblow to the IMY; that is, by sending a letter to the IMY, calling the IMY's special whistleblowing number, or booking an appointment via the whistleblowing number.
