Saudi Arabia: CITC announces entry into force of cybersecurity regulatory framework

The Communications and Information Technology Commission ('CITC') announced, on 29 May 2021, the entry into effect of the cybersecurity regulatory framework for service providers in the communications, information technology, and postal sector. In particular, the CITC noted that the aim of the framework is to raise the level of cybersecurity maturity among service providers, by providing requirements for improving the management of cybersecurity risks in accordance with international best practices and frameworks.

Furthermore, the CITC clarified that the regulatory framework contains a comprehensive set of cybersecurity requirements and controls that will contribute to regulating and enabling practices for providers of telecommunications, information technology, and postal services, in a manner that will raise the level of confidence in the integrity of the infrastructure of service providers.

Moreover, the CITC remarked that the regulatory framework will support the adoption of a risk management methodology and the fulfillment of cybersecurity requirements for service providers, which will deal with cyber threats and ensure the safety of services provided to clients.
