Quebec: CAI publishes guidelines on privacy policies

On December 18, 2023, the Quebec Commission on Access to Information (CAI) published an explanatory guide for businesses on how to write a privacy policy. The guide aims to clarify:

  • what a privacy policy should contain;
  • what is a privacy policy; and
  • how to write a privacy policy in clear and simple terms.

On the contents of the privacy policy, the guide highlights the privacy policy should include:

  • how personal information is collected;
  • the personal information collected and why it is collected;
  • the people who have access to personal information;
  • security measures; and
  • the rights of persons concerned by personal information.

You can read the press release here and the guide here, both only available in French.
