Portugal: CNPD issues note on use of cookies announcing incoming guidelines

The Portuguese data protection authority ('CNPD') announced, on 25 June 2021, that following requests for clarification from the media on the use of cookies on websites of public entities, it had issued a note addressing these concerns ahead of its planned publication of cookie guidelines for the private and public sectors. In particular, the note emphasises organisations' responsibility for ensuring that cookies on their websites are used in compliance with legal requirements.

In addition, the note outlines that the CNPD is currently conducting a survey on how public entities use certain online services and tools, focusing on the processing of personal data, inclusive of the use of cookies, with a view to a coherent and global intervention for public administration bodies.

You can read the press release here and the CNPD's note here, both only available in Portuguese.
