Pakistan: Federal Cabinet approves e-safety and personal data protection bills

On August 2, 2023, OneTrust DataGuidance Research confirmed with Mustafa Munir Ahmed, Partner at Legal Oracles, that the Federal Cabinet of Pakistan approved the E-Safety Bill 2023 and the Personal Data Protection Bill 2023.

Mustafa clarified that "per the information that has been provided to us, the two bills have only been approved by the Federal Cabinet, however, for any bill to become law, it must go through the legislative process; it must be passed by both the National Assembly and the Senate of Pakistan (collectively the Parliament). From the information available on the website of the National Assembly and the Senate of Pakistan, none of these bills have been introduced and/or passed by the National Assembly and/or the Senate of Pakistan."
