New Brunswick: OAIPC presents 2017-2018 Annual Report to Legislative Assembly

The Office of the Access to Information and Privacy Commissioner ('OAIPC') presented, on 19 December 2018, its 2017-2018 Annual Report ('the Report') to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick ('the Legislative Assembly'), which outlines, among other things, the privacy complaints, data breach notifications and access complaints the OAIPC had received under the Personal Health Information Privacy and Access Act 2009. In particular, the Report highlights that out of the 16 privacy complaints the OAIPC investigated, there were four cases in which it found that the custodian had mishandled personal health information. In addition, the Report notes that the OAIPC had closed 371 breach notification files and 19 access complaints.
