Netherlands: Ministry of Interior confirms submission of Whistleblower Protection Bill to House of Representatives

The Ministry of Interior and Kingdom Relations announced, on 23 June 2021, that the bill for a Whistleblower Protection Act implementing the Directive on the Protection of Persons who Report Breaches of Union Law (Directive (EU) 2019/1937) ('the Whistleblowing Directive') had been submitted to House of Representatives on 1 June 2021. In particular, the Ministry noted that the House of Representatives is considering the bill and that once they have approved it, the bill will go to the Senate. Moreover, the Ministry confirmed that once the bill is approved by the Senate, the Royals and the Ministry will sign the legal text and that the Whistleblowers Protection Act will come into effect once it is published in the Official Gazette.

Furthermore, the Ministry emphasised that it is intended for the Whistleblowers Protection Act to apply and replace the current House for Whistleblowers Act from December 2021.

Finally, the bill can be tracked on the new website and the House of Representatives website.

You can read the press release here and the bill here, both only available in Dutch.
