Netherlands: Cabinet publishes cybersecurity strategy for 2022-2028

The Dutch Cabinet announced, on 10 October 2022, the publication of the Dutch Cyber Security Strategy for 2022-2028. In particular, the Cabinet highlighted the strategy describes the role of government, companies, and citizens in a digital society. More specifically, the strategy outlines four main aims, including:

  • increasing the cyber resilience of government, companies, and social organisations;
  • offering safe and innovative digital products within the Netherlands;
  • countering digital threats from states and criminals; and
  • increasing the number of cybersecurity specialists, education on digital security, and the digital resilience of citizens.

In addition, the strategy notes that to achieve the above goals, tasks include the merger of the National Cyber Security Centre ('NCSC') , Digital Trust Centre, and the Cyber Security Incident Response Team for Digital Service Providers ('CSIRT-DSP') into one national cybersecurity authority. Furthermore, the Cabinet detailed that the strategy will be subject to annual review, and an evaluation study in 2025 to ensure that the strategy may be amended and make subsequent recommendations.
