Morocco: CNDP publishes statement on management of Coronavirus and tracing apps

The Moroccan data protection authority ('CNDP') published, on 12 May 2020, a statement ('the Statement') addressing data protection during COVID-19 ('Coronavirus'). In particular, the CNDP noted that the management of the Coronavirus pandemic may involve, among others, managing bank accounts remotely, measuring temperatures in the workplace, and conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments, while also authorising the use of the 'WIQAYTNA' tracing app. More specifically, the CNDP highlighted that the tracing app complies with Law No. 09-08 on the Protection of Individuals with Regard to Processing of Personal Data if, among other things, it is used on a voluntary basis, the access to data is only limited to authorised persons, and there exists a commitment to delete or anonymise the data for research purposes after the health crisis has ended.

You can read the Statement here, only available in French.
