Morocco: CNDP issues deliberation on facial recognition

The Moroccan data protection authority ('CNDP') issued, on 30 March 2020, its deliberation of 26 March 2020 ('the Deliberation') on the extension of a moratorium on facial recognition until 31 December 2020. In particular, the CNDP highlighted the continued experimentation with biometric and facial recognition technologies, and the need to research and adopt solutions to deal with the health risk among the state of emergency and the management of the COVID-19 ('Coronavirus') crisis. In addition, the Deliberation proposes, among other things, that data related to use and data related to authentication should not be stored together by the same entity, the use of sector-specific identifiers, while also addressing possible security measures.

You can read the press release here and download the Deliberation here, both only available in French.
