Mexico: SSPC announces creation of national registry for cyber incidents

The Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection ('SSPC') announced, on 6 December 2021, that it is preparing to create a National Registry of Cyber Incidents ('RNIC'), which will allow the Government to measure the occurrence and impact of crimes on the internet, as well as identify behaviours or trends that potentially affect citizens. In particular, the SSPC noted that there was a rise in cyber crime last year, which was exacerbated by the global pandemic. As such, the SSPC noted that the RNIC, which is currently managed by the SSPC, would be extended to all states in Mexico, with a view to creating a database with information from security authorities of all three levels of government.
