Japan: Peatix issues statement on data breach affecting potentially 6.77M customers
Peatix Inc. issued, on 17 November 2020, a statement on a data breach in which an unauthorised third party had gained access to the personal information of up to 6.77 million customers. In particular, Peatix highlighted that the accessed personal information included payment-related information such as credit card and financial institution account information. As a result, Peatix outlined that it has blocked unauthorised access to its database and is strengthening its security measures, including the mandatory resetting of all passwords. Furthermore, Peatix noted that the investigation is on going with the assistance of external security firms, and they will announce further developments as soon as new facts are discovered.
