Japan: METI requests public comments on draft revised Cybersecurity Management Guidelines

The Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry ('METI') released, on 26 October 2022, its draft revised Cybersecurity Management Guidelines and is requesting public comments on the same. In particular, the draft revised guidelines clarify the need for cybersecurity measures as part of corporate risk management. In addition, the draft revised guidelines detail principles that management should implement, including the need to ensure comprehensive security takes a bird's eye view of the entire supply chain as the structure becomes more complex, and the need for proactive communication not only with external parties, but also with internal parties. Furthermore, the revised draft guidelines outline guidance in relation to the work of the CISO, including that necessary measures be taken to improve the skills of all employees, not only those engaged in security work, so that everyone is security conscious and can implement necessary and sufficient security measures.

Public comments can be submitted here until 6 December 2022.

You can read the press release here and the draft revised guidelines here, both only available in Japanese.
