International: UK and US issue joint statement on deepening their data partnership

Nadine Dorris, Secretary in the United Kingdom for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport, and Gina M. Raimondo, Commerce Secretary in the United States, published, on 8 December 2021, a joint statement in which they outlined their governments' shared commitment to deepening the UK-US data partnership to realise a more peaceful and prosperous future by promoting the trustworthy use and exchange of data across borders. In particular, the joint statement welcomes progress made on both sides regarding bilateral data flows, and outlines their commitment to achieving a successful and enduring partnership, including on adequacy, as well as to building trust in the ways their Governments access information for the purposes of public safety, national security, and law enforcement investigations.

Furthermore, the joint statement notes, among other things, that the US and UK seek to shape a global data ecosystem in a manner that promotes and advances interoperability between different data protection frameworks, facilitating cross-border data flows while maintains high standards of data protection and trust.
