International: UAE AI Office signs agreement with UNDP to promote the adoption of AI

On February 20, 2024, the UAE Ministry of Cabinet Affairs announced that the UAE Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications Office (UAE AI Office) had signed an agreement with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to enhance research and development in artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

The Ministry explained that the agreement aims to:

  • enhance partnerships in areas of common interest to promote AI and benefit from it to accelerate progress towards achieving sustainable development goals;
  • explore the necessary factors and requirements for developing and utilizing AI and the digital ecosystem;
  • enhance decision-making processes based on AI technologies and digital tools, including data-driven governance frameworks and advanced policy analytics;
  • establish data management frameworks and ethical guidelines for AI;
  • enhance trust and increase the adoption of AI by reducing associated data risks; and
  • exchange knowledge and strengthen institutions and initiatives in the field of AI, including training in data science and machine learning.
