India: Access providers blacklist 50 entities for spamming

On September 3, 2024, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) announced that access providers had taken measures against misuse of telecom resources for spamming, including blacklisting over 50 entities and disconnecting more than 275,000 telecom resources. More specifically, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) issued a directive to all access providers that mandated access providers to immediately stop promotional voice calls from unregistered senders or telemarketers using certain telecom resources. Any unregistered telemarketers found to be misusing the resources will face severe consequences, including disconnection of all telecom resources for up to two years and blacklisting.
