Iceland: Persónuvernd urges careful use of social media in light of TikTok criticism

The Icelandic data protection authority ('Persónuvernd') issued, on 8 July 2020, a statement and recommendations urging parents and guardians to educate children about the use of social media in light of the criticism Tik Tok Inc. has received for extensively collecting and processing personal information about its users. In particular, Persónuvernd highlighted the European Data Protection Board ('EDPB') taskforce on TikTok and the launch of investigations in several states into TikTok in relation to the alleged violations of child protection laws.
