Hong Kong: PCPD publishes article on AI data guidelines
On July 25, 2024, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) published an article on AI data guidelines. The article recognizes that Hong Kong organizations are exploring ways to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into their operations to optimize efficiency and leverage algorithms to perform granular analyses. However, organizations are concerned about the difficulties in compliance in the absence of guidance.
The article also notes that organizations face the challenge of the adoption of AI that presents privacy and ethical risks, such as the lack of transparency in AI models, storage of data inputs to generative AI chatbots on external servers, and reinforcing gender or racial biases from a recruitment process solely driven by AI.
Therefore, the PCPD reminded organizations of their AI Model Personal Data Protection Framework, as published on June 11, 2024, to serve as guidance in assisting them in procuring, implementing, and using AI, including generative AI, in compliance with the relevant requirements of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (PDPO).
