Germany: BNetzA announces its designation as a Digital Services Coordinator under DSA

On May 14, 2024, the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) announced its designation as a Digital Services Coordinator (DSC) under the Digital Services Act (DSA) from the same date.

The BNetzA clarified that as a DSC, it will monitor online services' compliance with the DSA by acting as a central point for complaints by online users and may impose fines for systematic violations. The BNetzA highlighted that it will be supported in its work by the Federal Agency for Child and Youth Protection in the Media (BzKJ), the Media Authority of North Rhine-Westphalia coordinating for the competent bodies for media monitoring, and the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI).

Lastly, the BNetzA stated that as a DSC, it is also responsible for the certification of organizations for applying for the status of trusted flaggers and for the approval of bodies for out-of-court dispute resolution.
