Germany: BMDV launches strategy forum on international digital policy

On September 6, 2024, the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) announced the launch of the strategy forum on international digital policy. BMDV stated that the forum consisted of 120 participants and marked the start of a new stakeholder process for strategic foresight in the area of international digital policy. The focus was on global internet and artificial intelligence (AI) governance, i.e. questions about how states regulate the use of digital technologies internationally.

BMDV noted that there will be two new task forces, in which experts from science, business, society, and the tech community will systematically examine developments and trends in internet and AI governance in order to develop concrete future scenarios. Additionally, the BMDV stated that it will introduce a fellowship program to promote young adults in international digital policy. The results of the task forces will be presented at the next strategy forum on February 24, 2025.
