Georgia: PDPS presented 2023 activity report to Parliament

On April 1, 2024, the Personal Data Protection Service (PDPS) announced that it had presented its 2023 activity report to the Parliament, including information on the state of personal data protection in Georgia, covert investigative actions, and control activities.

What were the main activities of the PDPS in 2023?

During the reporting period, the PDPS received 526 complaints, most of which related to data processing in private organizations. In addition, from March 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023, the PDPS conducted 192 inspections, which resulted in the identification of 267 situations of illegal processing of personal data.

Moreover, the report contained a summary of relevant decisions related to the private sector, regarding the following issues:

  • data subjects' right of access to personal data;
  • protection of minors' personal data;
  • protection of personal data in employment relations;
  • processing of personal data in the health care sector; and
  • processing of personal data in the financial sector.

Additionally, the report highlighted the PDPS's actions in cooperating with international organizations and its research activities.
