EU: EPRS issues study on EU digital sovereignty

The European Parliament announced, on 2 July 2020, that the European Parliamentary Research Service ('EPRS') has issued a study on a Digital Sovereignty for Europe ('the Study'). In particular, the Study outlines a new policy approach designed to enhance Europe's strategic autonomy in the digital field. In this regard, the Study encourages the EU to update and adapt a number of its current legal, regulatory and, financial instruments, as well as to promote more actively European values and principles in areas such as data protection, cybersecurity, and ethically designed artificial intelligence.
