EU: EDPS publishes highlights of 2024 IOW
On September 25, 2024, the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) published the highlights of the 2024 edition of the International Organizations Workshop on data protection (IOW), which it organized in partnership with the World Bank in Washington, D.C.
The EDPS highlighted that in 2024, 170 representatives of 68 international organizations participated in 2024's edition of IOW, including 13 new organizations. According to the EDPS, the 2024's IOW featured:
- a high-level panel that discussed the IOW's journey over the past 20 years;
- a dedicated panel on artificial intelligence (AI) which explored the potential and data protection challenges it brings;
- practical sessions which focused on strategies for preventing, mitigating, and responding to personal data breaches and how to ensure that IT rules comply with the highest privacy standards; and
- breakout sessions which tackled the complexity of data transfers to and from international organizations and the challenges for data protection officers (DPOs) and other privacy professionals within international organizations.
