EU: Commission adopts guidance in light of Regulation on Online Intermediation Services applicability

The European Commission ('the Commission') announced, on 10 July 2020, that it had adopted a set of guidance to help traders, online platforms, and search engines get the most out of Regulation (EU) 2019/1150 of 20 June 2019 on Promoting Fairness and Transparency for Business Users of Online Intermediation Services ('the Platform to Business Regulation'), which will be applicable from 12 July 2020. In particular, the Commission outlined that it had published questions and answers ('Q&As') aimed to constitute a checklist for online platforms and search engines when implementing the new requirements provided by the Platform to Business Regulation.

In addition, the Commission highlighted that its independent expert group of the Observatory on the Online Platform Economy has published three draft progress reports, seeking stakeholders' feedback on the same. In particular, the Commission stated that the three draft reports cover the major aspects of data access, differentiated treatment, and methodological ideas relating to the question on how best to measure key aspects of the online platform economy.

Feedbacks to the three draft progress reports can be submitted here.
