Denmark: Datatilsynet to give input on assessment of Meta's new payment model

On November 9, 2023, the Danish data protection authority (Datatilsynet) announced that it would seek to give its input on the Irish Data Protection Commission's (DPC) assessment of Meta Platforms Ireland Limited's new feature that allows users of its Instagram and Facebook services to choose a paid version without behavioral marketing.

According to the Datatilsynet, Meta introduced the new features following the European Data Protection Board's (EDPB) binding decision on Meta's use of personal data for behavioral marketing. The Datatilsynet highlighted that the EDPB instructed the DPC, the lead supervisory authority with regard to Meta, to ensure compliance with the EDPB's binding decision.
