California: Bill relating to health information passes both houses
On September 14, 2023, the California State Senate concurred with the amendments introduced by the California State Assembly to Assembly Bill 352 on Health information, which was thereafter ordered for engrossing and enrolling. The bill outlines requirements for applicable entities which include providers of healthcare, pharmaceutical companies, or contractors who create, maintain, preserve, store, abandon, destroy, or dispose of medical information. In addition, the bill seeks to provide patients with a right to access or receive a copy of their electronic medical records upon request which must be consistent with applicable state and federal laws governing the same.
