California: Bill on opt-out preference signal read for first time in Senate

On May 24, 2024, Assembly Bill 3048 California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018: opt-out preference signal was read for the first time in the California State Senate. Prior to this, on May 22, 2024, the bill passed its third reading in the California State Assembly.

If enacted, the bill would prohibit a business from developing or maintaining a browser or device, through which a consumer interacts with a business, that does not include a setting that enables the consumer to send an opt-out preference signal to that business.
