California: Bill on AI passes third reading and read for first time in Assembly

On May 24, 2024, Senate Bill 896 for the Artificial Intelligence Accountability Act passed its third reading in the California State Senate. On the same day, the bill was read for the first time in the California State Assembly.

If enacted, the bill would require the Government Operations Agency, the Department of Technology, and the Office of Data and Innovation to develop and maintain guidelines for State agencies and departments to analyze the impact that adopting generative artificial intelligence (AI) may have on vulnerable communities.
