California: Assembly bill to amend CCPA exemptions introduced

Assembly Bill ('AB') 2871 for An act to amend Section 1798.145 of the Civil Code, relating to privacy under the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 ('CCPA') was introduced, on 18 February 2022, to the State Assembly. In particular, the bill would amend certain exemptions currently provided for under the CCPA and which were due to expire on 1 January 2023 per an amendment by the California Privacy Rights Act of 2020 ('CPRA'). More specifically, the bill would remove the timeframe for the applicability of certain exemptions under Section 1798.145 of the Civil Code.

A similar bill, AB 2891, was also introduced in the State Assembly on 18 February 2022, and which also aims to amend the date of expiry of certain exemptions under the CCPA by extending the expiry date from 1 January 2023 to 1 January 2026.
