California: AG releases modified proposed CCPA regulations for public comment

The California Attorney General ('AG'), Xavier Becerra, released, on 7 February 2020, a modified text of the proposed regulations ('the modified Proposed Regulations') under the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 ('CCPA') for public comment, further to the Proposed Regulations' first release in October 2019. In particular, the modified Proposed Regulations include clarifications to definitions such as 'personal information' and 'employment-related information', the inclusion of 'opt-out' buttons that organisations may utilise, as well as changes to the procedures regarding requests to know or delete and the exemptions afforded to service providers regarding the retention, use or disclosure of personal information obtained in the course of providing services.

The deadline to submit written comments to the AG is 17:00 PST on 25 February 2020.

You can read a redline version of the modified Proposed Regulations here, a clean version here, the notice of modifications here, and the documents and other information relied upon here.
