Barbados: GIS announces call for comments on data protection bill

The Government Information Service ('GIS') announced, on 20 June 2018, that the Ministry of Small Business, Entrepreneurship and Commerce is seeking comments on the draft Data Protection Act 2018 ('the Bill'). In particular, the Bill outlines principles with regard to the processing of personal data, notification requirements for data controllers, the establishment of the Data Protection Commissioner, and introduces enforcement penalties for non-compliance. The Bill also outlines the scope of liability for directors, managers, or similar officer of a body corporate purporting to act in such a capacity.

Comments may be sent to [email protected] before 31 July 2018.

You can read the press release here, and the Bill here.
