DataGuidance confirmed, on 23 October 2018, with Nasir Doulah, Partner at Doulah & Doulah, that the Digital Security Act, 2018 ('the Act') had been enacted on 8 October 2018.

Doulah highlighted, "Under the Act, imprisonment has been imposed [as a] punishment for secretly recording government officials or spreading 'negative propaganda' using a digital device. It also introduces criminal and financial penalties for the collection of an individual's 'contact information,' which includes, name, image, address, date of birth and DNA profiles, without their legal consent."
