Australia: OAIC opens investigation into Bunnings and Kmart regarding FRT

The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner ('OAIC') announced, on 12 July 2022, that it had opened an investigation into the personal information processing practices of Bunnings Group Limited and Kmart Australia Limited. In particular, the OAIC highlighted that the investigation was opened following a report from the Australia Consumer's Association ('CHOICE'), concerning the use of Bunnings and Kmart's use of facial recognition technology ('FRT').
